GW-475 BMR is an early maturity dry stalk sterile hybrid forage sorghum with the BMR 6 trait. It is a single cut hybrid for growing a quick forage with excellent dry matter yield potential. 475 BMR is for silage, balage, or hay. Yields from testing have indicated 20-25 tons at 65% DM. When seeding for balage we recommend a slightly higher seeding rate with a drill for finer stems which dry down faster and cattle prefer. It can be direct chopped for silage when it is seeded at lower rates and harvested 10 days after heading. Because it is (BMR 6) reduced lignin, the digestibility is improved substantially. GW-475 BMR enables milk production comparable to corn silage. This hybrid is well suited for dryland or irrigated conditions. The inputs are 60% less than what would be required to produce the equivalent amount of corn. GW-475 BMR is sterile producing sweet stalks, 8-10% protein, and excellent TDN, IVTD, NDFD %. It produces high levels of WSC and ESC sugar content. We recommend our non BMR hybrid GW-2120 if it is to be left standing in the field into the winter for standing hay/grazing.
