Super Sugar (Delayed Maturity) (Sorgo Sorghum Sudangrass)
Super Sugar delayed maturity is new and unique producing increased yields and protein. The delayed maturity trait allows more time to harvest a highly nutritious forage, or 25 to 30 days additional grazing. Super Sugar (DM) can be left to grow for 25-30 extra days; this will increase the yield substantially while maintaining quality. Since this hybrid is later maturing the harvest timing can vary and therefore be delayed to achieve a higher yield prior to harvest. We have seen growers harvest this hybrid once instead of twice which improves efficiency and decreases field compaction. Harvest is normally 60-75 days after planting. This hybrid is an excellent option for green manure production to build organic matter/carbon. It is one of the best conventional summer annual forage grass for hay, grazing, haylage, or cover-crop/carbon-builder. Sweet stems and increased leaf to stem ratio ensures a quality of feed cattle prefer over others. This hybrid has quick regrowth suitable for multiple cuttings. The TDN can be around 58-62% and protein can reach 14-16%. Dry matter yields have been from 8-10 Ton/Acre in yield trials.
